Balance Sheet and Income Statement

Balance Sheet and Income Statement / Kaerus
Balance Sheet and Income Statement

1.5 days (10 hours)

IN PERSON IN PARIS 19 OR LIVE ONLINE

This programme provides a clear and structured approach to reading and understanding the balance sheet and income statement.

You will learn how to connect the figures to the underlying business activity, identify areas of risk or opportunity, and turn your analysis into concrete decisions on cash flow, margins and investment.

By the end of the programme, you will be able to explain a balance sheet and income statement to management, a banking partner or an investor, and quickly identify significant variances and their likely causes.

You will be able to assess their impact on cash flow and profitability, then formulate a prioritised recommendation supported by a short- and medium-term action plan.

Programme

Each sequence combines short theoretical inputs, guided demonstrations and practical case studies.

Sequence 1
Structure Your Reading

You will establish a structured framework for analysing financial statements and drawing clear conclusions from them.

• Structure and relationship between the balance sheet, income statement and notes to the financial statements

• Reading the main balance-sheet categories : assets and liabilities, equity, debt and fixed assets

• Intermediate management balances and EBITDA to connect operating performance with the final result

• Comparison of current year versus prior year and normalisation of the scope before analysis

Sequence 2
Analyse to Take Action

You will turn your analysis into concrete levers for improving cash flow and profitability.

• Margins, fixed and variable costs, and break-even point

• Working capital, working capital requirements, net cash, cash flow generation and debt

• Significant variances : price and volume effects, customer and supplier payment terms, and inventory turnover

• Key operating, profitability and financial structure ratios to support objective decision-making

Sequence 3
Present and Decide

You will produce a clear, accessible summary and prepare for discussions with external stakeholders.

• Executive summary with key messages and warning points

• Management dashboard and cash flow snapshot with a prioritised action plan

• Preparation for a banking discussion : supporting file, covenants and 12- to 18-month forecasts

• Follow-up governance : responsibilities, meeting summary and next steps
